The Velar is a stylish, refined and seriously appealing SUV, but there are better-finished and more practical alternativesget the best price
Trim: RANGE ROVER VELAR
Entry-level models get a DAB radio, touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, a better stereo, keyless entry, auto braking, LED headlights and an automatic gearbox. We suspect the cloth seats and 18in wheels may put people off, though.
Engine: 3.0 D300
We recommend the 296bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel for effortless performance. It may not be as outright fast as some of the petrols, but it pulls harder from low revs and can still officially manage 0-60mph in a hot hatch-rivalling 6.1sec. For everyday use, it’s definitely a good fit for the Velar.
