The Land Rover Range Rover Velar is a stylish, refined and seriously appealing large SUV. If you keep to small wheels, it's a comfy companion while our favoured S trim gets plenty of kit. It’s best to stick to the cheaper trims and engines – once you start moving up the range, the price rises into the realms of better-resolved cars, such as the Audi Q8 and BMW X6.

The only way to get the P400 petrol engine. You do at least get suede cloth inserts on the seats and steering wheel (which is heated), and a head-up display.

We like the 296bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel for effortless performance. It may not be as outright fast as some of the petrols, but it pulls harder from low revs and is refined to boot. For everyday use, it’s definitely a great fit for the Velar.
