The mid-range 99bhp engine is a fine engine, pulling well from low-revs and sprinting from 0-62mph over a second faster than the 74bhp entry-level engine. Even better, it manages decent fuel economy, helping keep running costs low. All of that makes it our favourite engine.

1.0 EcoBoost

This range-topping mild-hybrid engine is worth considering. As the most powerful engine in the standard Fiesta range (excluding the 1.5 Ecoboost in the ST hot hatch) it’s sufficiently potent, pulling hard from low revs and making overtaking easy. The mild-hybrid technology means that it remains efficient and gives an extra power boost from a standstill.

1.0 EcoBoost Hbd mHEV 125

Unlike the other engines in the Fiesta range, this 74bhp entry-level engine doesn’t come with a turbocharger. As a result, it feels quite gutless when you put your foot down on a fast road or to overtake. If you can, we’d suggest spending a little more to upgrade to one of the Ecoboost engines. 

This 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine packs a punch, producing 197bhp and sprinting from 0-62mph in 6.5sec. A six-speed manual comes as standard and top speed is 144mph.

1.5 EcoBoost

Our favourite trim comes with all the kit you get with entry-level Trend trim but adds some extra comforts, including an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear parking sensors and keyless start. It also allows you to add the optional automatic emergency braking, something we consider to be an essential safety feature. 

Titanium

Active trim adds a more SUV-like edge to the Fiesta, raising the ride height by 18mm and adding a more rugged body kit. On top of that, you get all the same kit as Titanium trim but with ‘rugged’ 17in alloy wheels. 

Active

Based on the Active model, so you get SUV-inspired looks and a slightly raised ride height. This X version has more creature comforts, but it's too pricey for us to recommend.

Active X

The hot Fiesta ST comes with load of standard kit as standard.

ST-3

If you want to make your Fiesta sporty without paying a big premium for the ST hot hatch, ST-Line trim is your ideal choice. Equipment wise, it’s similar to Titanium trim but adds 17in alloy wheels, more aggressive styling and sports suspension, which is stiffer and lowered for better agility. 

ST-Line

Based on sporty ST-Line trim, but adds even larger (18in) alloys, automatic climate control and keyless entry. Rather pricey, though.

ST-Line X

Based on Titanium trim but adds some extra creature comforts, including keyless entry, bigger alloys and automatic climate control.

Titanium X

The entry-level trim is well worth your attention because it comes with plenty of standard equipment, including 15in alloy wheels, a heated front windscreen, air conditioning, an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring, LED headlights and cruise control. It's not available with optional automatic emergency braking though, so we recommend upgrading to Titanium trim.
