In isolation, the Grecale looks to be a step in the right direction for Maserati, demonstrating decent ride, capable handling, plenty of interior space and an improvement in interior quality. Compared with the likes of the Porsche Macan, it’s outclassed when it comes to handling and quality, and looks too expensive.

Entry-level GT is the one to go for if you want to keep prices to a minimum. It comes with the 296bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine and gets standard equipment including 19in alloy wheels, leather upholstery, LED headlights and parking sensors all round.

The entry-level 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine gives you 296bhp and gets slight mild-hybrid assistance to help boost efficiency. It’ll sprint from 0-62mph in 5.6sec, which is quicker than every Audi Q5, outside of the performance-focused SQ5, so you’ll never need to worry about sprinting to motorway speeds or when overtaking on a country road.
