The latest Mazda CX-5 feels like a bit of a step back when it comes to material quality and the removal of its physical controls. That said, it still handles well, is well-equipped and has become even more practical, which is a real plus if you want a big family SUV that’s still decent to drive. We recommend going for the entry-level Prime-Line, which comes with all the kit you need.

Our favourite trim includes 17in alloy wheels, privacy glass, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, electronically heated and folding wing mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, driver seat adjustable lumbar support, dual-zone climate control, a 10.25in infotainment system with DAB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring, built-in sat-nav with five years of free map updates, and adaptive cruise control.
