The Mercedes E-Class Estate is not cheap, but it is classy and impressively refined. It's also comfortable, easy to drive, well-equipped and a compelling option in the luxury estate car sector. The E300e plug-in hybrid makes a lot of sense if you’re a company car driver who wants an estate and isn’t ready to go fully electric.

Entry-level AMG Line is our favourite trim as it comes packed with kit including 18in alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, electrically adjustable heated front seats, two-zone climate control, a 12.3in infotainment system, keyless go, privacy glass, wireless phone charging, wood trim, black leather seats and a dashcam.

The 300e is a good choice for company car drivers looking to reduce their tax bill. It's a 2.0-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor that produces a total of 328bhp and can officially travel up to 69 miles on battery power alone – twice the distance a 530e Touring can manage.
