The Mercedes E-Class is a mixed bag. It's very well equipped and has a great range of engines, from efficient diesels, plug-in hybrids to punchy petrols. It's pretty quiet and comfortable on the motorway but the ride isn't perfect around town and, while the boot is big, the rear passenger compartment isn't, relative to its rivals. Overall, we'd say the BMW 5 Series is a better car to drive, has a better infotainment system and it's better built inside.get the best price

We'd stop at the AMG Line Premium, which adds a 360-degree parking camera, keyless entry, a powered boot lid, 19in alloy wheel and augmented navigation. However, this AMG Line Night Edition Premium Plus adds a panoramic sunroof, 20in alloy wheels, fully electric front seats with memory settings, an electric steering column and a Burmester stereo with 13 speakers and 590 watts.

This is a more powerful version of the E220d's 2.0-litre diesel engine that has 261bhp and will get you from 0-62mph in 6.3sec. The official average fuel economy isn't anywhere near as good as the E220d's though.
