Review

Some rivals are more practical and better to drive, but the Mercedes GLE has a dazzling interior, and on air suspension, is a comfortable cruiser.

get the best price

All full-fat AMG models get sportier styling, 21in wheels, AMG tweaked air suspension, a 360deg camera system, four-zone climate control and a choice of powerful six or eight-cylinder petrol engines

With an official 0-62mph time of just 5.3 seconds, the GLE 53 feels appropriately brisk. It also gets a sports exhaust that sounds delightfully tuneful when accelerating hard; with snaps, crackles and pops when you let off the accelerator. That said, it never quite has the effortless pace of the grunty 400d diesel.
