One of the most famous names on British roads, MG is a Chinese owned firm these days, and has built a reputation for offering great value SUVs and electric cars.

The HS PHEV family SUV is a particularly strong option, having been named Plug-in Hybrid of the Year at the 2025 and 2026 What Car? Car of the Year Awards. Meanwhile, the MG4 electric hatchback is another car that's very easy to recommend, and the Cyberster electric sports car adds some sparkle at the top of the range.

More recently, MG has introduced the IM5 and IM6 electric cars, which are convincing alternatives to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y respectively.
