The UK’s best-selling car is stylish and brilliant to drive, yet it's also affordable, with Ford dealers prepared to offer big discounts. The turbocharged 1.0-litre Ecoboost versions are particularly good. It makes an excellent new or used choice, but it's worth noting that an all-new Fiesta is due to arrive later this year.

8. Hyundai i10

Cheap to buy and run, the Hyundai i10 offers a lot of interior space for such a small car. It's also nippy and easy to park, plus SE versions and above come well equipped. No wonder the i10 is our reigning City Car of the Year.
