Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe drive

What is it?

The C-Class Coupe is Mercedes' answer to the Audi A5 and BMW's 3 Series Coupe. It's based on the latest C-Class saloon and shares most parts under the skin, but comes with a sleeker three-door body.

What's it like to drive?

Our drive was brief; a very short route around the Goodwood Estate as part of the Moving Motor Show.

The C250 Blue Efficiency AMG Sport has a 1.8-litre, 201bhp turbocharged petrol engine. Performance isn't as sprightly as you might expect, but the few bumps we encountered suggest that the ride is pretty forgiving, while the steering is responsive, but rather light.

What's it like inside?

It's like any other C-Class so it's good, but not quite up to the standards of a 3 Series Coupe.

Should I buy one?

At £34,080, the model we drove goes head-to-head with the Audi A5 2.0 TFSI and the BMW 325i Coupe SE. The Audi is usefully cheaper and the BMW has a six-cylinder engine, but coupes are all about style, so many buyers are just as likely to choose whichever they most like the look of. We'll have a comprehensive review on the C-Class coupe next week so come back for a definitive view then.
