The best leasing deals on our favourite family cars
Family cars really do need to do it all. As well as having enough space for the family and all of their luggage, they need to be good to drive, comfortable over long distances and can't cost a lot to run either. It's a tall order, but our favourites in this class fulfil it all the same.
If you want to keep costs low and also aren't worried about owning your car, leasing is a great way to finance a new set of wheels on your driveway, and here we've gathered up the best deals on our favourite family cars from What Car? Leasing. In each case, you can click the links to find out more about each model, and see all the great deals available both through leasing and through What Car? New Car Buying.
10. Kia Ceed
Model 1.0 T-GDi '2' ISG | Leasing price from £171.60 per month | The deal 36-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1029.60 initial payment
The Ceed is a spacious family hatchback that gives you the reassurance of Kia's market-leading seven-year warranty. Stick with an entry-level version for the best value for money, and team it with our recommended 1.0-litre petrol engine for peppy performance, even on the motorway.
9. Honda Civic
Model 1.0 VTEC Turbo 126 SR | Leasing price from £222.19 per month | The deal 48-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1333 initial payment
Our favourite Civic might be the fire-breathing Type R hot hatchback, but there's still plenty to like about the standard car, including a big boot and an engaging driving style. The 124bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine you get here is all most drivers will really need, while our recommended SR trim gets you a 7in touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, leather trim and a rear-view camera.
8. Mazda 3
Model 2.0 SkyActiv-G MHEV SE-L Lux | Leasing price from £222 per month | The deal 48-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1332 initial payment
You get plenty of kit as standard in the Mazda 3, and this means there's no need to venture too far up the trim ladder. In fact, this SE-L Lux model gives you dual-zone climate control, heated seats and keyless entry for a small premium over the standard kit of SE-L models. Meanwhile, our favourite 2.0-litre petrol engine has plenty of shove, and because it's a mild hybrid it has the potential to lower your fuel bills too.
7. Mercedes A-Class
Model A180d Sport | Leasing price from £244.16 per month | The deal 48-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1464.96 initial payment
Leasing your next car means you can drive something you might otherwise be unable to afford, and the Mercedes A-Class is a truly aspirational premium family car. As well as having a stunning interior that's crammed full of the latest tech, Mercedes' family hatchback impresses with a strong safety rating and a comfy ride.
6. Toyota Corolla
Model 1.8 Hybrid Icon Tech | Leasing price from £220.82 per month | The deal 36-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1324.92 initial payment
If you want a family car with the potential to slash your running costs, this hybrid Toyota Corolla is the way to go. You can drive around town on partly electric power, but there's also a 1.8-litre petrol engine to help out on faster roads or when the battery's empty. Combine that with seriously low CO2 emissions and plenty of standard kit, and the Corolla is easy to recommend. In fact, it's our reigning Hybrid Car of the Year.
5. BMW 1 Series
Model 118i M Sport | Leasing price from £262.27 per month | The deal 48-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1573.62 initial payment
The latest 1 Series offers entertaining handling, a peppy range of engines and a comfortable ride. Even better, it comes with the best infotainment system you'll find in this class. M Sport versions are the most popular, and come with sports suspension, more distinctive styling and luxuries including heated front seats and leather trim.
4. Volkswagen Golf
Model 1.5 TSI Life | Leasing price from £213 per month | The deal 24-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1278 initial payment
The arrival of a new Volkswagen Golf is always big news, and this latest version impresses us with its tidy handling and strong range of engines. The 1.5-litre petrol engine you get here will make the most sense for most people, while there's no need to look past the entry level Life trim, because this comes with everything you're likely to need including climate control, 16in alloy wheels and adaptive cruise control.
3. Ford Focus
Model 1.0 Ecoboost 125 ST-Line | Leasing price from £213.07 per month | The deal 36-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1278.42 initial payment
If you want a family car that's also great to drive, then the big-selling Focus should definitely be on your shortlist. Not only is the 1.0-litre petrol engine we recommend punchy enough for most situations, but combined with the Focus great handling, it makes for a car that can easily put a smile on your face. Don't think the Focus isn't also family friendly, though – it's quiet at speed and has roomy rear seats.
2. Skoda Scala
Model 1.0 TSI 95 SE | Leasing price from £158 per month | The deal 48-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £948 initial payment
The Skoda Scala is our reigning Family Car of the Year – why? Well, it's supremely comfortable, riding over bumps better than many rivals, as well as simply out-classing anything other than the Skoda Octavia in terms of space. Add in that it's good to drive, has a pleasant interior and is the cheapest car here by some margin, and the Scala definitely deserves a place on your family car shortlist.
1. Seat Leon
Model 1.0 TSI EVO FR [EZ] | Leasing price from £175.87 per month | The deal 48-month term, with annual limit of 8000 miles. Plus £1055.22 initial payment
It was going to take a mighty effort to supplant the Scala from the top of this list, but the latest Seat Leon has done just that. It's a fantastic all-rounder, offering loads of space, lots of kit, a tempting price and a great range of engines. That it's also great to drive is the icing on an already very tempting cake.
