Top 10: most reliable family cars-revealed

Warranty Direct has named the UK's most and least reliable family cars after analysing data from its Reliability Index, which is based on data from more than 50,000 policies

1. Mitsubishi Lancer (05 - 08)

Top spot goes to the Mitsubishi Lancer, with the time spent off the road for repairs typically less than an hour and the average repair cost just Β£69. The Lancer also offers a spacious interior and is a cheap used buy. Just make sure you can live with its uninspiring handling, unsettled ride and intrusive road noise.

Warranty Direct's least reliable family car

Skoda Superb (02 - 08)

Skodas generally perform very well in reliability surveys, so it's a shock to see the Superb ranked lowest by Warranty Direct. This comfortable and hugely spacious saloon was let down by the large number of engine issues reported and repair costs that came in at an average of Β£578.
