Used test: Volkswagen T-Roc R vs Cupra Ateca verdict

These sports SUVs both produce almost 300bhp and blast from 0-60mph in less than five seconds, but which is the better used buy?...

Volkswagen T-Roc R vs Cupra Ateca

Our verdict

Despite the fact that both of these cars share so much of their underpinnings and cost a similar amount, we were surprised at the differences that emerged.

The smaller, lighter T-Roc is not only more agile than the Ateca but is also much nicer to steer, handles with more verve and has more grip . It feels much more like a natural rival to a hot hatch.

The Ateca still impresses, though, not least with its combination of performance and practicality. Indeed, if you have a set of lanky teenagers, it’s probably the one that’ll suit your needs better.
