One of the very best small cars, standing out for ride comfort, interior quality and hushed cruising manners. The 1.2 Puretech 100 engine is punchy and doesn't drink much fuel. The Ford Fiesta and other rivals are much more fun to drive but few are quite as stylish.

Pricier still than the GT, the only worthwhile thing GT Premium has is adaptive cruise control with the ability to deal with stop and go traffic on automatic and electric models.

The most powerful petrol engine has 127bhp for a 0-62mph sprint of just 8.7sec. It's only available with the automatic gearbox and is plenty fast enough, if that’s what you’re after. Even so, we’d advise avoiding the extra cost and sticking with the PureTech 100.
