The Peugeot 5008 is stylish, practical, good to drive and our favourite large SUV. It's relatively affordable to run, especially if you go for the entry-level 1.2-litre Puretech 130 petrol engine. If you regularly carry around lots of people and luggage, the more powerful engines are also worth a look.get the best price

You get everything that the Active model gets, plus sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, privacy glass, driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, a fold-flat front passenger seat that can be used as a table and 18in alloy wheels. You also get more safety features, including a driver attention indicator, lane assist, blindspot warning, auto high beams and an SOS emergency response feature. It's our pick of the range but we’d suggest adding the optional package that includes keyless entry and start along with a gesture-controlled, powered tailgate.

The 129bhp 1.5-litre diesel keeps running costs low (45-50mpg is achievable in the real world without too much effort). It's a little grumbly, especially when cold, and isn't super quick flat out (0-62mph takes around 13sec) but has enough mid-range shove to satisfy most people. It's our pick of the diesels when you factor in price and running costs.
