Read full reviewIf you're looking for all the usual electric car benefits but want real driving pleasure, the Porsche Taycan is the car for you. It's even reasonably practical and wonderfully classy inside. It's hugely expensive, though, and if you want to do long journeys on a regular basis, the Tesla Model S is a a better bet.

The engine
See full engine specsThis is the Turbo model. Normally it has 617bhp but, for short bursts, it can produce up to 671bhp. We timed it on a damp track getting from 0-60mph in 3.1sec and going on to reach 100mph in just 6.9sec – quicker than a Tesla Model S Dual Motor Performance managed in the same conditions. It will also do a WLTP range of 280 miles (bank on 200-odd in the real world) and can charge at up to 270kW, which would take the battery from 10-80% in around 20mins.
