While we can see the appeal of the Captur’s funky looks and decent refinement, our experiences so far suggest that weak engines, a lumpy low speed ride and so-so rear space hamper it.

Trim: Iconic

Mid-spec Iconic trim is worth considering because it adds built-in sat nav, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and start, tinted rear windows and funky two-tone paint.

Engine: 1.3 TCE 155

Available only with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, this top-spec 1.3-litre doesn’t feel that much stronger than the TCe 130. Given it’s higher price, we’d avoid.
