Review

While we can see the appeal of the Captur’s funky looks and affordable starting price, by the time you get an engine with enough power coupled to the right trim, it's not that cheap. And all the engines are relatively weak next to those offered in the better-handling and better-packaged Ford Puma; it doesn't ride anywhere near as well as a Volkswagen T-Roc; plus, if it's space you're after, the Skoda Kamiq is much bigger and has a nicer interior.

get the best price

We'd suggest jumping up to this mid-spec Iconic trim. It adds 17in alloy wheels (Play has wheel trims), roof bars, privacy glass, a contrasting roof colour, rear parking sensors and in-built sat-nav.

Another engine we haven’t sampled, although, again, its higher price is off-putting. Unless you drive to the moon and back every year and desperately need an automatic gearbox, we’d stick with one of the cheaper petrol engines.
