There is a lot to like about the Seat Tarraco. It’s one of the better cars in the class to drive if you like something that feels a bit sporty, it's really generously equipped and it has a very good safety rating, if not the best in the class. But it isn’t as versatile as the very best large SUVs both in terms of space in its rear-most seats and its boot. If you fancy something sportier this FR trim is worth a look. The black door mirrors, black roof rails, 19in alloy wheels and more aggressive bumpers take care of the looks on the outside, while sports seats and extra trim details deal with the inside, plus you get an electrically operated driver's seat with memory recall, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, front and rear parking sensors and a powered tailgate. The bigger wheel make the ride firmer, though.

We haven't tried the 197bhp 2.0 TDI 200 yet but it's claimed to hit 62mph in 7.8sec, which makes it the quickest in the range. Standard four-wheel drive will help it put down its power well in the wet, too.
