The Skoda Karoq is a top-drawer family SUV with clever seating options, a big boot and plenty of space inside for passengers. It’s also a pleasure to drive, thanks to its comfortable ride (as long as you avoid the 19in alloy wheels) and great visibility – and it has a well made interior. If you’re after something sportier then have a look at the Seat Ateca, but the Karoq is the best all-round family SUV in its price bracket.get the best price

There’s no bargain-basement version of the Karoq, so the range starts with well-equipped SE trim. You get 17in alloy wheels, adjustable lumbar support, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, electric front and rear windows, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats.

This punchy petrol engine isn’t much thirstier than the 1.0 TSI 115 but feels a lot stronger. Not only has it got plenty of power, it’s more refined than the diesels. Available as a manual or automatic – it’s our pick of the lineup.
