The Skoda Kodiaq is one of life's great all-rounders. It offers good amounts of space for up to seven people, a plush interior, strong engines, decent comfort and it's not too pricey. We'd recommend you add the Kodiaq to your shopping list, especially if you want seven seats.

SE L Executive trim nets you 19in alloy wheels, heated front seats, front lumbar adjustment, leather trim and an electrically operated boot, but the real big ticket items are the third row of seats, Matrix LED headlights and selectable drive modes.

This entry-level 148bhp engine will make sense for most buyers. It's not as relaxing to drive as the equivalent diesel, but has enough performance for most families with a 0-62mph of 9.8sec. It's also cheaper to buy in the first place and shouldn’t cost the earth to run for most users.
