Review

Don't discount the Scala on the basis that it's cheap. It ticks almost every box, with a smooth ride, decent handling, a good infotainment system, amazing rear seat space and an excellent boot. In fact, only its cheap-looking interior and weaker than average resale values mark it down.

Trim: SE

Entry-level SE trim offers reasonable equipment, including 16in alloy wheels, a leather gear lever and steering wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, plus auto lights and wipers. You also get an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system, front seat lumbar adjustment, rear parking sensors and LED headlights.

Engine: 1.0 TSI

With a little stirring of the six-speed manual gearbox it'll dutifully carry out overtakes when required. It also has enough low-end shove to keep up with the general ebb and flow of traffic with relatively ease, and certainly has more poke than the 1.0-litre Kia Ceed. We think it's great and is our top choice in the range.
