Review

The Skoda Superb is a truly fabulous thing. For a start, it's absolutely massive, so it has the practicality base covered. Yet it's far from a one-trick pony, proving pretty comfy, nicely made, well equipped and great value for money. If you can forego a premium German or Swedish badge, it's a spankingly good executive car.

The entry-level SE model has plenty of goodies, so don't feel under pressure to move up the trims if you're on a tight budget. It comes with 17in alloy wheels, cruise control, power-folding door mirrors, keyless start, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights, an 8.0in touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto and digital instruments.

This petrol engine is our pick of the range. With 148bhp the 1.5 TSI 150 has enough poke to match the 2.0 TDI 150 from 0-62mph (that's 9.1sec for the record). You have to work it harder up hills than the diesel, but it has the requisite oomph if you're not always carrying heavy loads or towing. It's also smooth, reasonably fuel efficient and pretty good on company car tax. Whether you're on a budget or not, it's a great option.
