The Skoda Superb is a truly fabulous thing. For a start, it's absolutely massive, so it has the practicality base covered. Yet it's far from a one-trick pony, proving pretty comfy, nicely made, well equipped and great value for money. If you can forego a premium German or Swedish badge, it's a spankingly good executive car.

SE L is our pick of the range because it's reasonably priced and adds plenty of kit to the SE Technology package, including 18in alloy wheels, full matrix LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, dynamic indicators, keyless entry and an electrically operated boot.

This 187bhp 2.0-litre petrol comes as standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and will whizz you from 0-62mph in just 7.7sec. That's pretty quick, in case you were wondering. It's smooth and officially it'll average over 40mpg.
