The Toyota C-HR's low running costs and good equipment levels partly make up for its relatively high price tag, but its ride, handling and practicality are not as good as the best small SUV rivals'. If you do buy a C-HR, we think the 1.8-litre regular hybrid in Design trim is the best choice.
The trim
This sporty trim gets you big 20in alloy and stiffer suspension, plus a lot of standard luxury and safety kit. It's pricey, though.
The engine
The 2.0 is noticeably punchier than the 1.8 and only slightly less frugal. We don't think it's worth the extra outlay, though.
