As a true sports car, the Supra is too wayward in the handling department to steal any thunder from the sublime Alpine A110 and Porsche 718 Cayman, but if you're not desperate to be the fastest on a track day, there's still fun to be had with its playful and easily approached limits. It's also quiet at speed, pretty comfortable, has an excellent driving position, lots of kit and a great infotainment system.

Opting for our preferred 3.0 Pro model means you can get the bigger engine while avoiding the lairier blue hue of the Jarama version. It also adds full leather seats, a head-up display and ambient lighting. Entry-level 2.0 Pro comes with a long list that includes Alcantara seats, heated seats, two-zone climate control, 18in alloy wheels, keyless entry, auto lights and wipers, power-folding door mirrors and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

The muscular 335bhp 3.0-litre suits the GT character of the Supra the best because you don’t have to work it hard for it to feel quick. It hits 0-62mph in a claimed 4.3sec, and emits a baritone bark when you push it, along with pops and crackles from the exhaust if you back off the accelerator.
