The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer is an average, run-of-the-mill estate car. In other words, it’s no bad egg, but there’s nothing about it that’ll worry any class leaders. For instance, the Toyota Corolla is better to drive, plusher inside and roomier in the back. The Astra Sports Tourer Petrol 130 in Griffin trim is our recommended version, because it keeps the price to a minimum.
The trim
This entry-level Astra Estate comes with 16in alloy wheels, automatic lights and wipers, LED headlights, climate control, keyless ignition and cruise control.
The engine
The 130 has plenty of grunt from low revs, making it effortless to drive around town, with a pleasing sense of urgency at higher revs. The 0-62mph time of 10.0sec means it isn’t a swift as a Seat Leon 1.5 TSI Evo 130. As well a manual, the 130 is available with an eight-speed auto gearbox.
