Review

The Vauxhall Insignia doesn’t excel in any particular area, but stick to the lower trim levels and it’s not a lot of money compared to other executive cars. Avoid the petrol models and it should prove cheap to run, although there’s no tax-busting plug-in hybrid model. Just remember that rivals are better to drive and even more practical.

The most obvious additions over SRi are a set of 20in alloy wheels with sportily styled front and rear bumpers. Keyless entry and start are added along with adaptive LED headlights, a wireless phone charger, a bigger 8.0in touchscreen with a Bose stereo, alloy pedals and an electric driver’s seat with memory and massage functions.

Despite having much more power than the 1.5 Turbo D, it’s just as efficient according to official figures. We’re yet to try it, however.
