The Vauxhall Mokka has lots of equipment and plenty of personalisation options, and there's a range of frugal and efficient engines to choose from. There are more well-rounded choices in the small SUV class, though. The Skoda Kamiq, for example, is more spacious and comfortable, while the excellent Ford Puma is more exciting to drive and should be cheaper to run.get the best price

This sportier-looking trim level gets a larger set of 18in alloys and a number of extra exterior and interior styling touches. However, it’s probably not worth the extra cost over an Elite model.

With 129bhp the Mokka will accelerate from 0-60mph in a perfectly reasonable 9.1 seconds. There’s also plenty of grunt at low revs and it’ll whisk you up to motorway speeds with little stress. As standard both petrols come with a six-speed manual gearbox, but the 130 Turbo comes with the option of an eight-speed automatic.
