Review

The Volkswagen ID.3 is a remarkably well rounded small electric car. Not only is one one of the few EVs that’s genuinely good fun to drive, thanks to its well-weighted steering and fantastic body control, but it feels genuinely nippy too, matching the acceleration of the pricier Kia e-Niro Long Range and pummelling the rest of its key rivals, such as the Citroën e-C4 and Peugeot e-208. It’s also surprisingly well-equipped in base Life trim and benefits from slow predicted depreciation.

Stepping up to Family trim introduces some particularly useful kit over Life, such as privacy glass, a rear-view camera, better seats, a ski flap, matrix LED headlights, two-zone climate control and a variable boot floor. Less useful is the standard panoramic sunroof. It's available with the Pro or Pro Performance battery and motor combinations.

This 143bhp Pro version is available with the 58kWh battery, which equates to 0-62mph in 9.6sec and up to 263-miles of range.
