Review

This ninth-generation VW Passat is the best yet, proving a comfortable, refined and hugely practical estate with a smart interior, plus it can make a cheap company car. If you do buy one, we think the 1.5 TSI eHybrid engine is a good choice. Mid-spec Elegance is our pick of the trim range.

Mid-level Elegance trim adds heated front seats, extra massage settings for the front seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, additional ambient lighting colour options and the acoustic pack (with added sound deadening and laminated windows). It's our pick of the range.

This 148bhp petrol engine uses mild-hybrid technology to bolster performance and fuel economy; the 0-62mph sprint is completed in 9.2 seconds and it officially averages more than 50mpg. It’s available only with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
