Go for the 1.0 TSI 95 SE model and you'll have bought a very fine, practical small SUV for a sensible price. Don't be tempted to go for higher trims and more powerful engines, because if you have that kind of money to spend we'd recommend looking at the T-Roc instead – it's only slightly more expensive and more sophisticated in many areas. The excellent Ford Puma is also more fun to drive.

Available exclusively with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and is by far the nippiest T-Cross – but if you've got this much money to speed there are better cars available to you, including Volkswagen's own T-Roc.
