If you’re after something that’s stylish, comfortable and practical, the Taigo could be a great option for you. It's not as capable or fun as the Ford Puma but that’s forgivable given the superb ride, generous rear passenger space and the fact that you get plenty of toys with even the entry-level version.

Taking the step up to Style trim means you get all the same equipment as Life trim but with 17in alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights, a larger 10.3in driver display screen, sports comfort seats, built-in sat-nav and dual-zone climate control with touch-sensitive controls.

The second most powerful engine in the line-up is also our chosen version. That’s because it has a little more power, at 108bhp, and will get you up to motorway speeds with less fuss. It’s not the fastest thing in the world, but it responds quickly to your inputs and gives you sufficient performance for everyday driving. We’ve only tried it with the optional DSG automatic gearbox but imagine the six-speed manual gearbox will be great.
