Review

Picking a favourite in this class is a very tricky process because just about everything is well-accomplished. However, the Volvo V60 edges ahead of similarly-priced rivals thanks to its tidy handling and great build quality and comfortable ride. And did we mention it’s blooming roomy? The Volvo V60 is a great estate car

Trim: Momentum

This entry-level trim is the one we’d choose, because it still has plenty of kit. You get 17in alloy wheels, a 9.0in touchscreen with sat-nav, a 10-speaker stereo, a 12.3in digital instrument display, adjustable lumbar support, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, a power-operated tailgate and dual-zone climate control. Standard safety kit includes automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, oncoming lane mitigation and lane-keep assist.

Engine: 2.0 D3 [150]

This 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel takes a claimed 9.9sec to go from 0-62mph, which isn’t that quick and it’s barely more efficient on CO2 output or MPG compared with the more powerful D4, so we’d opt for that instead. A six-speed manual is standard with an eight-speed auto optional.
