New cars for 2012 - Part 2 - Family cars coming in 2013
What is it? New version of Ford’s family car
Price from £18,000 (est)
Like the latest Focus and new Kuga, the next Mondeo will be a global model. The UK version will look almost identical to the US Ford Fusion that will be unveiled - in concept car form - at the Detroit motor show in January 2012.
Ford insiders have told us that the design will be strongly influenced by the Evos concept car that made its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show.
What is it? Entry-level range-extender saloon
Price from £40,000 (est)
A smaller, cheaper model is central to Fisker’s ambitious expansion plans. The Nina is just that. It’ll use range-extender technology like the larger Karma, but will be closer in size to – if slightly larger than – a BMW 3 Series.
What is it? New BMW 3 Series rival with small diesel engines
Price from £25,000 (est)
As with the current model, Infiniti’s next G Series saloon will rival the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, but will be bigger than both. Mercedes four-cylinder diesel engines will provide wider appeal.
What is it? Bolder, lighter family car, with Skyactiv technology
Price from £19,000 (est)
Mazda’s new 6 is expected to resemble the Takeri concept car (above). Skyactiv technology means the new 6 will be lighter and more efficient than the current car.
