The battery-powered fully electric Focus goes on sale in 2012 and is the first of five electric vehicles from Ford.

It's likely to be pitched closely to the Nissan Leaf, which costs £23k (after you’ve got your £5k electric car grant from the Government).

Power comes from a 28kWh lithium-ion battery, which gives the car a Nissan Leaf-alike range of 100 miles and a top speed of 84mph.

However, where the Leaf takes eight hours to be fully recharged, the Focus will take three to four hours, according to Ford.
