The days of playing I-Spy to while away the hours on long car journeys are over thanks to the advent of in-car entertainment systems such as portable DVD players – the ten best of which we review here.

While you can buy plugged in manufacturer DVD systems, if you are prepared to use portable versions they needn't cost the earth.

What's more, many of the units do far more than merely play DVDs.

You can plug in memory sticks and watch pre-recorded videos, look at pictures and in some cases, even tune into digital television, or play computer games.
