USED Ford Mondeo Estate (00 - 07)

My car

I loved this car on the whole. Plenty of space in the back and in the boot. The drivers seat felt like an arm chair. The driving position was superb. On the down side, the carpets weren't fitted too well in the drivers foot well. The Ford Dealer was not interested. The 6 disc CD player ate a number of my CDs and was changed within the warranty period (was very reluctant to put more than one CD in at a time from that point on). A new clutch was required after 30,000 miles, just after the warranty period had ended which was costly. A leak appeared from the arial that would occasionally drip water onto the driver. This was fixed free of charge by a Ford Dealer. The 17" tyres are also very expensive.

Averaged between 27 - 31 mpg.

I had done just over 60,000 miles in the car in 5 years, and would still be driving it if a white van wouldn't have written it off.

My car

This car has a five star rating when within warranty. It's a great car and lovely to drive.

Just move on as soon as the warranty expires. I spent over £2k on failed injectors and turbo.

I now drive the petrol version - not nearly as good to drive, but hopefully better to maintain beyond warranty.

02 registration estate. Done 82,000 miles. Best car I've had. POSITIVES: it's reliable and speedy cruiser which has an enourmous boot: easily swallows a dog, baby buggy and luggage. Good road holding with very predictable handling round corners. Really useful parking distance sensor. Seats are comfortable. sound system fine. NEGATIVES: cruise control is a bit 'clunky' with a large amount of error and slow to register changes. It would be nice to have a memory to the electric front seat. Repairs: needed new steering pump at 75k and new injector at around 80k. Otherwise has been reasonable to maintain (other than the tyres: 120 a tyre for pirrelli P6000s. With the engine torque, its easy to spin cheap tyres, which I do not recommend.

Overall: I'm going to keep this until we need more space (?merc E class or van!)

My car

I had 3 of these from new on 2005 with my business, I've just sold one with 250k miles as I was worried about reliability, the only thing that needed changing ( apart from brake pads n disks ) was the turbo hose at 190k and serpentine belt tensioner The remaining 2 are up to 170k and 200k miles,

They are great cars, well planted ( the suspensions a bit firm sometimes) , they are quick cars and you can easily get 45-50 mpg whilst making rapid progress. I've been very impressed with them
