This was the most unreliable car that I have ever owned.
It leaked water from new and regularly failed to start for various reasons, mostly electronic although the starter failed once. The dealer never succeeded in keeping it on the road for more than a few weeks at a time.
The rear tyres were completely bald after 12,000 miles.
Finally, in desparation I sold it last autumn and lost £6000 in 18 months.
A well equipped car for the money, with plenty of standard equipment.
The engine is not quite powerful enough though, the 100 PS version is much better.
Very good mpg, averaging 55 around town.
Overall an enjoyable car to drive and own.
Having owned the car for just over 6 months I have had only one fault. The passenger window would open when the double locks were applied.
This is my second diesel car the first was a Peugeot 307 2.0 hdi, I find the Megane is a much better car all round.
The engine I find powerful and having lots of torque especially for overtaking.
I have found the car has several flaws.
The external passenger door handle has a plastic cover, which fell off. I was told that it would cost either £26 or £54 to replace, depending on the dealer. This part has now been reduced in price to £9. The new part fell off too. Eventually a cover was found which was tight enough to stay in place. Surely this replacement part should be provided free?
The keycard can be withdrawn from its slot, with the engine running, something you can't do with a normal ignition key.
The car can only be started by depressing either the brake or clutch pedal. It now only works with the brake pedal.
The manual heating/ventilation controls feel cheap in this so-called "quality car". They are stiff, loose and difficult to grip.
The cover inside the central door rest, covering the hinge has broken off.
The car hops about on rough or potholed surfaces. This is dreadful, although the suspension is otherwise comfortable.
