The AMG 53 has the most powerful engine in the CLE range, with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol producing 443bhp and 413lb ft of torque. Power is sent through all four wheels and it takes 4.2sec to sprint from 0-62mph (or 4.0sec with the Pro Performance Package, which also lets you switch to rear-wheel drive).

While the Mercedes CLE Coupé might not stand out as an exceptional value proposition, it is a compelling choice for those seeking a comfortable, long-distance cruiser with a touch more practicality than its closest rivals. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 performance version is very quick but a BMW M4 has sharper handling.
