The VW Tiguan offers generous space for occupants, a big boot and fine driving manners. The Skoda Karoq is better value for money, but the Tiguan is polished enough to take on the highly competent Kia Sportage. For private buyers, the 1.5 TSI 150 is the engine to go for, while company car drivers will be better off with the eHybrid.

This is the entry-level Tiguan, and comes equipped with 17in alloy wheels, climate control, a 12.9in touchscreen infotainment system, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and LED headlights.

This is the entry-level petrol engine in the Tiguan. It uses mild-hybrid technology to bolster its performance and fuel economy, producing 128bhp and completing the 0-62mph sprint in 10.6 seconds. Top speed is 130mph, and a seven-speed automatic gearbox is standard.
