The A8’s blend of performance, comfort and serenity are wedded to a beautifully built, practical and well-equipped interior. In fact, by a whisker, it beats the Mercedes S-Class, which shows just how good to drive and be driven in the A8 is.

Black Edition trim is based on S line, but as its name suggests, it brings lots of black exterior detailing (including for the door mirrors) and piano black interior trim. You also get a bespoke alloy wheel design.

If you're after a regular A8 (not the S8) then we reckon the 282bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel 50 TDI is the most sensible choice because it costs the least to buy and is remarkably efficient on a run.
