The A8’s blend of performance, comfort and serenity are wedded to a beautifully built, practical and well-equipped interior. In fact, by a whisker, it beats the Mercedes S-Class, which shows just how good to drive and be driven in the A8 is.

Given the A8's luxury brief, it's perhaps not surprising that even this entry-level trim comes very well equipped. Leather seats (heated in the front), a powered bootlid, adaptive cruise control, four-zone climate control, and even a head-up display are included as standard. You also get four-wheel drive and air suspension.

If diesel doesn’t suit and you don’t have access to home charging, the 55 TFSI has a buttery smooth power delivery, and when you want to get a shift on, revs more keenly and is ultimately faster than the 50 TDI diesel. It will be thirstier, though.
