What should I look for in a used Audi Q2 estate?

When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.

Being on the smaller side of the SUV spectrum, the Q2 will have been an ideal vehicle for those driving in the city. With that in mind, you’ll need to do all the usual checks for parking dents and scuffs to bumpers. You’ll also need to look for kerb damage to some of the larger alloy wheels fitted to S line and Edition #1 models.

Make sure there are no warning lights on the dashboard, particularly on diesel models equipped with a diesel particulate filter.

What are the most common problems with a used Audi Q2 estate?

The Audi Q2 has been subjected to three recalls since 2016. If you want to check whether a recall has been carried out on a car, you can contact your local Audi dealer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall.

Reason for recall

The hardening process for the rear wheel bearing housings may not have been correctly performed. In the worst case this could lead to a fractured housing. Should a fractured housing occur there would be abnormal noises, bad tyre wear and a theoretical possibility of wheel loss.

Is a used Audi Q2 estate reliable?

The Q2 scored well in the most recent What Car? reliability survey, finishing second out of 23 cars in the small SUV class. Its overall score was an excellent 99.5%. It was only beaten in this class by the Mini Countryman, which scored 99.7%.

Audi as a brand didn't do so well, though, coming in 24th out of 31 manufacturers with a mediocre score of 89.0%. This put it below BMW, Seat and Volkswagen, but above Land Rover and Vauxhall.

Used Audi Q2 reliability: the owners' view

According to our latest Reliability Survey, What Car? readers said the Audi Q2 has delivered mixed results when it comes to reliability and dealer support. Several owners of both petrol and diesel versions reported issues with electrical systems, particularly warning lights appearing unexpectedly. Some also experienced problems with the infotainment system and sensors, which occasionally required multiple dealer visits to resolve.

A number of readers were frustrated by the cost and frequency of repairs, with one describing their diesel Q2 as “surprisingly expensive to maintain for a small SUV.” That said, not all experiences were negative: some owners praised their local dealerships for handling faults quickly and professionally, even providing courtesy cars during lengthy repairs.

However, others found dealerships unhelpful or slow to acknowledge recurring issues, which impacted satisfaction. Overall, while some Q2s have been trouble-free, a notable number of owners did encounter reliability niggles and variable service standards.
