Leads the charge in the premium executive class. Its primary appeal is the way it drives, but its engines, standard equipment list and infotainment system are first-rate too. The firm ride on M Sport models is just about the only thing we can grumble about in this near-flawless executive car.

This adds some sporty styling and a stiffer ‘M Sport’ suspension setup. We recommend going for this and adding the optional M Sport Pro pack because the adaptive suspension it adds makes it the most comfortable version of the 3 Series.

The perky 181bhp 320i is an excellent option if you don’t fancy a diesel or have the option to plug-in very often. Its rev-happy nature sits well with the 3 Series' sporty character.
