The Cupra Born takes all the good bits from the class-leading Volkswagen ID.3 and adds a slightly more polished interior and an upgraded infotainment system. If you go for a mid-range V2 58kWh version it’s actually very well priced against an ID.3. The Born should certainly be on your small car shortlist.

This is the pick of the Born range, being the best all-rounder. Low-speed performance is the same on paper as the lower-powered 110kW option, but the added muscle gets the Born up to motorway speeds far more effortlessly, with 201bhp on tap and a 0-62mph time of 7.3sec.
