The Cupra Born takes all the good bits from the class-leading Volkswagen ID.3 and adds a slightly more polished interior and an upgraded infotainment system. If you go for a mid-range V2 58kWh version it’s actually very well priced against an ID.3. The Born should certainly be on your small car shortlist.

Top-spec V3 has the biggest 20in wheels and electric front seat adjustment with a built-in massage function.

This is the pick of the Born range, being the best all-rounder. Low-speed performance is the same on paper as the lower-powered 110kW option, but the added muscle gets the Born up to motorway speeds far more effortlessly, with 201bhp on tap and a 0-62mph time of 7.3sec.
