In mid-spec Expression trim with the TCe 130 mild-hybrid petrol engine, the Dacia Duster represents excellent value for money. True, there are rivals that are sharper to drive and plusher inside, but the Duster makes up for that in comfort, boot space, price and even off-road ability.

Journey adds 18in alloys and keyless entry but we're not convinced it’s worth the extra cost.

Our recommended engine feels punchy around town and capable on motorways, yet it’s good on fuel and cheaper to buy than the range-topping Hybrid 140.
