The Jeep Renegade has distinctive styling and is fairly practical, but it feels quite agricultural compared with rival small SUVs. As long as rear seat space isn't a priority, we’d point you towards the Jeep Avenger, which has a smarter interior and is sweeter to drive.

Trailhawk is for the off-road lovers because it has smaller 17in wheels and model-specific front and rear bumpers that can clear steeper obstacles. Oh, and it also gets a spare tyre in case you suffer a puncture. Only available as a 4xe PHEV.

The higher output version of the plug-in hybrid 4xe model isn’t actually that much quicker at 7.1sec 0-62mph, and isn’t worth the extra over the 190.
