The dash looks classy, and its simple rotary dials for the heater and stereo are easy to live with. A height-adjustable driver’s seat and a steering wheel that moves for reach and rake ensure most people will be comfortable. There are large luggage bins beneath the two outer seats in the middle row for storing the paraphernalia that goes with family life.
Mazda 5 space & practicality
The 5 has sliding rear side doors - a big advantage when parked in a tight space. Inside, the middle row has two full-sized seats that move back and forth independently, and a centre seat that's so small it hinders the 5's claims to be a true seven-seater. To stow the two rearmost seats you simply fold their backrests down.
Mazda 5 equipment
All 5s are generously equipped, with remote central locking, electric front windows and door mirrors, a single-slot CD player and air-conditioning even on basic TS models. Takara adds alloy wheels, a smarter look inside and out, picnic tables on the back of the front seats and tinted rear windows, while range-topping Furano includes ESP, cruise control, a CD-autochanger, leather upholstery and Bluetooth.
